The YI Schools Project Leader

Working full time under the supervision of Youth Initiatives Scotland CEO the project leader will manage our youth work partnership with St Paul’s High School to provide a high quality Youth Work service open to all learners but specifically aiming at vulnerable and disengaged young people. St Paul’s is a co-educational, Roman Catholic, Comprehensive High School located in Pollok. The project leader will manage the Youth work service, oversee youth work delivery in the school and will be responsible for leading and supervising the YI staff team there. The role will involve working closely with partner organisations across sectors and the implementation of the Youth Initiatives methodology.

The role includes running after-school activities and evening Youth Work Sessions and networking with relevant organisations, schools, various denominations of Church and Faith groups, agencies and individuals who can deliver services and workshops that connect with young people and facilitate young people’s voice. The role will also include weekend residential work from time to time and developing our summer programme.

Main Duties

  1. Work with school Leadership and pupil support to offer support and activities for vulnerable disengaged learners

    • Source training opportunities 

    • Facilitate young people who are not engaging with school to get to school or to do activities that encourage school attendance

    • Work closely with the RE department at St Paul’s to deliver faith based workshops and retreats (half day, full day and residential retreats) for all year groups each year

    • Develop and deliver existing Youth Initiatives short block courses for use in PSE, RE, Personal Development

    • Build volunteer team and structure and lead role in overseeing volunteer team

    • Work with Youth Advisory Committee in developing what programmes YI run in the school

    • Identify small groups in school who are disengaged and could benefit from short term programme

      • Design and deliver effective engagement programme to get to know group interest and link back into school.

    • Oversee mentoring, 1-1s, small group work and faith development

  2. Lead YI staff team in school

    • Lead and Coordinate any additional staff resourced to St Paul’s via Youth Initiatives funding streams including allocating roles, supervising and training staff and promoting excellence in youth work practice

    • Facilitate YI Scotland staff team meetings in St pauls

  3. Development of YI  Community hub.

    • Building street and centre based Youth Work programmes in a local community hall or more accessible space for young people. Identify and explore possibilities for developing connections the local community including Identifying key partner agencies both within local council area and outwith. Signposting young people to these agencies where appropriate

YI Thrive Youth Worker

Youth Work Modern Apprenticeship

The YI Thrive – Youth Worker

Working 16-20 hours per week under the supervision of Youth Initiatives Scotland CEO the youth volunteer co-ordinator would drive forward new initiatives created alongside YI’s Youth Advisory committee. This Youth Worker would play a key role in the expansion of the Love Where I live programme. The post holder would also look to develop our volunteer accreditation.

The role includes running after-school activities and evening Youth Work Sessions and networking with relevant partner organisations. The role will also include weekend residential work from time to time.

Main Duties

Face to face Youth Work

  1. Work with Youth Advisory Committee and youth volunteers to develop quarterly Love Where I live day projects and 2-4 week summer Love Where I live expansion project.

  2. Work with Youth Advisory Committee and youth volunteers to develop 3 new after school programmes.

  3. Establish organisations volunteer accreditation network in tandem with afterschool and Love Where I Live work.

  4. Lead volunteer evaluation after programmes to develop our youth work and enhance volunteer experience

  5. Attend weekend Volunteer training residential

  6. Engage in outreach work to make contact with alienated groups who reject formal activities.

Administrative responsibilities

  1. Work with existing key partner agencies both within local council area and outwith. Signposting young people to these agencies where appropriate and building links with them

  2. Recruiting and training volunteers including child protection policy and training.

  3. Work with CEO on main administrative work related to Love Where I Live growth and expansion

The Youth Initiatives Aprentices will focus on the personal, social and spiritual development of young people aged 11-18 in one of the main Youth Initiatives Scotland’s youth community hubs

 

Through weekly programmes, mentoring relationships, small groups and by connecting to other Youth Initiatives projects, participants will have an opportunity for personal, social and spiritual development. The Intern, with the other YI staff and volunteer team, plans, prepares and organises the events and activities of projects. The Intern will reach out to young people and connect them to age appropriate YI projects, meets with young people on a one-to-one basis, advocates for young people in the local area and engages young people in the shaping, planning and delivery of projects.

Sessional Youth Worker

The sessional youth worker will support delivery of afterschool sessions and evening Youth Work sessions working alongside our volunteer team. Mentor and train volunteers including young people to deliver peer education.

 

Main Duties

  1. With Youth Volunteers develop timeline of issue based sessions and creativity sessions to complement learning

  2. Working with Youth Volunteers to deliver after school sports sessions – variety of sports but particularly football.

  3. Plan and organise activities responding to the needs and interests of young people. Encouraging them towards self determination whilst building trusting relationships that offer real support.

  4. Mentoring Youth Volunteers

  5. Engage in some outreach work to make contact with alienated groups who reject formal activities.
